What is an effective jumping position of the rider?

Our ambassador Alexandra Johansson

Jumpers have for decades been riding in a chair position in the saddle with their feet in front of their center of gravity.
From this position they have learned to compensate with the whole body, riding with their upper body forward to catch up with their feet.
This position is accepted and a few trainers know that this position affects the horse's back negatvely as it gets more pressure and that it affects
the horse's jumping technique and landing negatively as the rider constantly moves forward and backward
instead of being as still as possible on the horse's back.

When we launched our first jumping saddle we quivkly learned that many
professional riders struggle with back pain. When they sat down in the saddle,
the pain disappeared immediately due to the position the saddle put their pelvis in.
When they started riding in this new position they first struggled
with a great feeling of imbalance which was replaced by better balance within a couple of weeks.
For the horses, this meant that they jumped up better, landed in balance
and became easier to turn and adjust in speed.

So,
first a brief discomfort (which was due to no jumper ever having had the opportunity to ride with his core turned on), which led to significant improvement. Not only in the horse's way of jumping and rideability, but also in durability. Therefore, equine therapists and physios soon began to want to learn more and work with us. There was an obvious difference around the withers, shoulders and in the back of the horse.

We offer two different types of tree for the horse and a variety of options for you as a rider.

Rising trot in front of a mirror, standing on a rolled yoga mat is very effective for balance.
The best is to do the exercise without shoes and with the heels outside the mat, the same way as when you are using stirrups.
